South Lakes Bike Fest
It’s often said about the lakes, that the area has its own weather system. Which is why as we crossed the M6 on our way to the small village of Staveley at the weekend, we did so with a small amount of worry. Worry that we’d have to take the sunglasses off, that our tent which is known for not being waterproof in any way would let us down, that we’d be sleeping in the back of the car (or van). Still, as we pulled into a freshly mown field, just outside the village we realised we needn’t have worried about South Lakes Bike Fest. The sun was shining and the Sender Ramps team had been hard at work. The weekend was primed to go off!!!
Fast forward to Saturday and an early start to set up the stand. As is ever the way, put some carefully selected ramps into a cordoned off area and Little Rippers appear from everywhere, wanting to session the park. Who are we to say no?
First order of the day though, was for a family ride organised by the guys behind the show. Apparantly it was a lot of fun. and very wet.
After an open session, we ran the first of five Skills Coaching sessions with our favourite groms. Its fast becoming a favourite part of our weekend.
This time out though, we ran some competitions for the rippers. Track Stand and Limbo. So much fun to be had. We’re very grateful to Escape Bike Shop for the generous prizes they gave away. Happy spending Rippers!
The evening saw the familiar lakes weather, with some drizzle. But that didnt matter, because the organisers had booked a band. A band that filled the tent and then blew it apart. Hats off to the amazing Friday Street Band.
Sunday saw much of the same weather and much of the same park action, with an open session giving way to a few lucky rippers getting some of Coach Chris’ time in one on one coaching sessions.
In summary its fair to say that this was a fun event. We saw over 50 riders through the jump park over the weekend and over 20 rippers took advantage of a quick skills session. There were lots of people out riding in the surrounding hills in what is a great area.
We had a lot of fun and since we’ve heard on the grapevine that its probably happening again next year, we’re already looking forward to the next one.
Thanks to Richard and his crew for inviting us.
